my mother-in-law is making leaps and bounds in her progress to get out of the watchtower.

for those of you that don't know, she is df'd but has been working on "coming back".

recently i've been able to exchange emails about the dangers of the organization and share jesus with her.

I like this qoute in Luke 15:7 - "I tell you that thus there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety-nine righteous ones who have no need of repentance."

It sounds to me that your MIL is certainly seeing how true love is not being shown. As I would say, you will know them by their fruits. If Christ Jesus came down all of a sudden in to the Hall, (which he wouldn't) and He saw what was going on, I would hate to stand to close to that elder after Christ dismantles him in His words. Christ was a compasionate and giving person towards all people who were desperately looking for Mercy and a sincere Love.

Villabolo - You took my thunder away, you and I were thinking the same thought, its one of my favorite scriptures.

Awen - That is what I call "True Compassion", you demonstrated in a way that it should have been. The heartless lack of love that they demonstrate should be enough for many to say that this is not for them.

I truly understand where your coming from. It is enough to make you gag. For many years people have been suffering for real spiritual food but offers nothing. I felt that way for a long time, and then left. I never felt good in the organization because Jehovah never approved of the way His people were being handled. After my own research of scripture, it help me to understand something: Amos 8:10,11 - "Look! There are days coming,' is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, 'and I will send a famine into the land, a famine not for bread, and a thirst, not for water, but for hearing the words of Jehovah. 12th vs - And they will certainly stagger from sea all the way to sea, and from north even to the sunrise. They will keep roving about while searching for the word of Jehovah, but they will not find it."

That pretty much sums up what the real feeling has become for many, but I pray they will somehow have the courage and strength to get out

Fact Finder - Don't give up my friend, I know its tough. I have been out since the mid-80's, and it hurts me deeply after all these years that my parents and I miss the other half of our family, but there are clues and hints that show they are getting tired. I pray for them every day. I have alot of tough days, but I still maintain hope, you have to. Hang in there!!

i am anxious to meet you all and have a support group/active audience over the next crucial months and years following.

background: long-time doubter, giving way to frustration and skepticism beginning about 10 years ago and finally to total admission that this is a cult and that atheism is the way to go.

Dario, Welcome my friend! Nice to have you here, I always enjoy meeting new people and giving them a listening ear. It does seem that our minds are so full of thought about the mistreatment by mere men who know nothing of the qualities of a compassionate sheperd. As humans, we feel alot of emotion and so we go ahead and start writing a thread. So we talk about this and we talk about that, and we vent at that moment what we feel. It's only natural, and so I understand what you're saying.

You were making some points about how you were not going to use foul language, or get involved in spats between posters, and that you wanted others who come on this site to know that this place will offer them encouragement to make those necessary adjustments for what they need to do. I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY! When people feel that they need to vent, it becomes an excuse to use whatever language, so I admire the way you expressed yourself.

What I find so amazing, is that another poster kinda brought this up on a thread, (foul language, etc.) and I could'nt believe the responses of people who were jumping all over him. There were 2 or 3 people that came to his side, but the ganga-up on him, that didn't inspire no one. It came to a point where a well known poster decided she had enough, and was no longer wanting to be a part of this site. I certainly hope she will reconsider for the benefit of those who need good encouragement.

I no longer use any of the society's publications, I just read my Bible, it has been my help for the last 25 years. As far as your thoughts on atheism, I didn't want to mix the subject on this thread, but I will address it on another Posting. I still pray every day that the other half of my family will get out, I see little hints here and there. So as I conclude, My prayers will be with you on your journey for true Happiness! Jer.23:32 helps me understand why I left as well as my Parents. Dario, Take care!!

Discussion involving my Dad & other long timers - Mood is definately different

i've seen several posts relating to the mood among longtime jws here recently.

i thought i would add to that collection and recount a discussion i recently had with my dad and a small group of folks about his age.

Doubting Bro, I like real good topics, and this is good!

I also want to say that there are quite a few people on this thread here that I have'nt met yet, so may I extend a "Welcome".

I find it interesting reading comments about peoples feelings or moods in regards to how they really feel about the organization. I, too am torn between sympathy and disappointment for the people who are scared, frightened, or so heavily involved that they fear all the head aches that come if they leave. I even have half of the family in it, and I have seen signals and clues that give their real feelings. I continually pray for them every day that their heart will wake up.

On another note, when I left about 25 years ago, I decided to do alittle more reading in my Bible. And some of the things that Doubting Bro and others have said were actually things that were foretold would happen about the sheep being scattered. Also, Jehovah does not use this organization to speak for him. I will always remember this one fact as written in Jeremiah:

"Here I am against the prophets of false dreams," is the utterance of Jehovah, who relate them and cause my people to wonder about because of their falsehoods and because of their boasting." "But I myself did not send them or command them. So they will by no means benefit this people," is the utterance of Jehovah.

They will be defeated, and when they are, their will be nothing left or anything to go to. There is no holy spirit, it has been long gone, and with it comes happiness, and there is none. It will come to a point that attendance will be so bad, that people will be more inclined to stay home. What is there to fear when there is nobody to judge you? Its not so much the writing on the wall, it was already foretold. I truly hope that more people will take courage and prayerfully consider their next steps.

Well, I do remember watching Challenger on the ABC Evening News when Fox News had not exactly existed yet and Reagan addressed the Nation. It pains me deeply to say that it represented a serious change in my life in the months after that I decided to fade away from an organization that drifted away from Jehovah. After dealing with my many looses, I found that healing was coming to my mind when I realized that I needed to read only my Bible. Only time will show whether it will open the eyes of the other half of the Family. There have been snipets of Hope, so I will continue to hope.

for a long while i have been coming to this site on a daily basis and i think it is time to introduce myself.

here we go: my parents learned the truth when i was 4 and i don't have childhood memories of how life was before they converted.

i was a model jw child, although quite mischievous at school.

Good to have you! I appreciate your story and have great empathy for you. Its amazing what they have put us thru and for what? I have been out over 25 years and still have have half my family in it, and it has caused emotional and mental pain to have to live without them because they think their pleasing Jehovah. But we pray they will awaken to the Truth, we don't feel they are naive, their just frightened and beaten, just as many of Jehovah's sheep are and we are HIS.

Kind words, a warm heart, and a smile will soon help your wife to fully understand the picture. It took courage and strength to write your story and it will certainly help others with your encouragement.

"if a brother has been baptized at least one year and to a reasonable degree meets the scriptural qualifications fo rministerial servants outlined at 1 timothy 3:8-13, he can be recommended for appointment.

" i thought paul specifically warned against appointing a "newly converted man"?

Hi Folks,

I forgot to mention in my thread above that I was doing parts in the meeting such as one of the parts in the kingdom Service, which was approx. 15 minutes or the concluding comments. When it came to Thursday night talks, I did either Talk No. 2 or 4., I was watchtower reader 3 Sundays out of the month.

This all happened in the late 70's in a small town in the Midwest. The reason for all this is we were a congregation of approx.25, with only 2 elders. There were no MS's in our congregation, I was barely 16 when this happen. This was very tough on me considering I was'nt very biblically intelligent. It was tough enough for me to do just my home work for school when I got home.

As we look back, most of us felt that the congregation should have been dissolved, which it was eventually. After that, we had to drive about 50 minutes to another Hall. Definitely glad thats over.

Hi Folks, Good thread SD-7

I was thinking alittle bit about the subject of quailifications for elder, I know the subject is in regards to MS, but the qualifications thing is a huge thing to me. If you read the qualifications outlined by the Apostle Paul word for word, can 99% of these men really be appointed?

When you take on the duties of a servant, you also take on that loving responsibility of caring for the witnesses in Care Centers, spending time with those alittle impoverished, widows and orphans, maybe going to visit a friend to spend time with him and encourage him without a tie on, but just spending time with the individual.

But the true picture of what I saw was men with fancy suits, nice expensive brief cases, with lots of important paper work in them, fulfilling all kinds of duties in the congregation, and then heading home with their family half a sleep because they waited for you while you were so busy with some frivolous meeting business.

But for that 1%, yes, they were worthy. In all the years that I went, I knew of only 2 that were truly merciful and compassionate, I hope that they have seen the light and become free.

To those of Faith on here, a question.

those of you on here who are still believers in god or gods, do you feel that it is better to be like our dear shelby (aka a. guest) and others on here, and simply believe without reference to a religion or to a holy book ?.

or do you think we need to find a church and some holy writings ?.

the reason i ask is because i can accept and appreciate a pure faith position, belief without proof, apart from your personal experience, but i cannot see that any "religion" or church, or holy writings, has any claim to truth..

I would answer it this way, you don't need a church or building to tell God that you love him and will worship him. After being out for almost 25 years, I still remember the scripture where it says - "where three or more are gathered in my name, there my Spirit is." The society does'nt like that scripture, because they want you to eat their spiritual food at the meeting. The things that are very important to me is my meditating on only the bible and on prayer. What if you lived out west in the 1800's living in the middle of nowhere, no church building to go to, but most families did have a Bible. People then would just get together for a little reading.

As the world turns, you have a terrible culture that is corrupting so much out there, Middle- East still with no peace, Koreas both arguing and vamping up arms, the extreme weather in all parts of world, disrespect and disunity in goverment, Television which has baby sat us with rot-gut, and all forms of technology to take over all aspects of our life, the addiction of the internet on how to mess up your life, (98% bad-2% good for medicine technology), failng economies, people out of work, and broken up family unit with no togetherness.

So I ask myself: Why would I not want to have God (Jehovah) there for me? But it is certainly understandable why People have a disdain for Jehovah, from what I've been reading, because they are frustrated at the way God is running things. Well guess what! How do you think Jehovah feels after his Name has been abused, disrespected, cursed, worse yet spoken for when he was not speaking. As they like to say "its Jehovah's spirit appointed spokesman. The payment for there actions will come. So Wobble, from what I gather from your writings, I don't think you are a lost soul, but you will find.
